Nabs Farm Garden

an image of the building from 1911 is on the CD-ROM. The porch and white masonry paint are the only significant external changes.

21 Anniversary Vernon St


This photograph was taken in 1828 on the occasion of the 21st Anniversary of the Vernon Street Socialist Institute. It is one of the few surviving photographs of the original interior. During it's heyday the institute was a hive of activity, uses included: dancing, night classes, singing, sunday school, concerts and of course political meetings.

James Maxton

James Maxton MP - Leader of ILP ‘rump’ following the split from Labour in the 1930's.
He was one of the great Scottish ILP contingent.

75 Anniversary

75th Anniversary of the Clarion House; Charlie Schofield and Gilbert Kinder with the Birthday Cake flanked by Louise Ellman and Stan Iveson. In the photograph are many local socialists who made a significant contribution to the Labour Movement in Pendle throughout the 20th Century. Other guests included Eric Heffer, Arthur Raistrick & Mike Hindley.
